HISTORY Following a discussion with the then Italian Ambassador to Australia, Mr Volpicelli, 2001 Foundation President Rosario Adamo, in conjunction with the Italian Consul for Queensland, Dr Ercole, decided to evaluate the establishment of an Italian Golf Association, in Queensland. After meeting with golfing enthusiasts, Vince and Victor De Pasquale, Rosario was quickly convinced that there would be significant interest in such a proposal and lawyer Alfio Romano was retained to incorporate the Italian Golf Association (Qld) Inc. Alfio and his sister and son had significant input in the establishment phase and their contribution is gratefully acknowledged. The first meeting of the Club was held on 7 April, 2002. when a Committee was elected and a schedule of games prepared. The first event was held at Royal Queensland Golf Club in June 2002. Since that time the Club has enjoyed ongoing growth in membership, and in 2006 successfully hosted an annual interstate carnival with our sister associations in NSW, Victoria and SA. This keenly contested event was held at Royal Pines golf complex with our Qld Club winning a hard fought contest. MISSION Our Club has four principal objectives: o Provide a regular golf competition which is played in a friendly and fun atmosphere while still adhering to the rules and etiquette of golf. o Foster goodwill and friendship in the Italian-Australian community o Encourage and support junior golf o Donate some surplus funds to selected charities ACTIVITIES & MEMBERSHIP The Club currently organises in excess of 12 games in a year, usually on the first Monday of each month, with a second game in selected months. Apart from the customary monthly prizes for winners and place getters, there are currently four medal rounds, two club championship rounds and a match play championship. All of these are conducted for both "A" & "B" grades and all are trophy events. In addition, the Italian National Day trophy is contested at the June game in each year and is only available to members with the trophies presented at the club's annual dinner-dance - usually held in November. Each golf day is open to visitors hosted by members and there is a special prize for the best score by a visitor. We also hold 2 inter-club games with other social clubs, and may consider additional inter-club tournaments. All members are issued with a fixtures booklet which sets out full details of each game programmed for the year. In addition, details of each competition are given in the "Games" page of this web site, including results of past events. Members can access the "Games" page and make bookings for each game by using their personal access code. Alternatively, bookings can be made by telephone. Membership of the IGA has numerous advantages, including: Play a variety of courses over the year with great prizes to be won and excellent fellowship to be enjoyed Members are not required to be a member of a golf club or have an AGU handicap. We are an official AGU handicap provider which any member can achieve after submitting the requisite number of score cards. Handicaps are recognized for any AGU sanctioned competition anywhere in Australia. If you already have an AGU handicap it will be updated following your participation in any IGA event Enquiries concerning membership should be directed to the Chairman of the Membership Committee – refer to the “Committees” section of this website.
